Dear Mom

Dear Mom, I just want to say thank you. I'm having a YAY! #moment in the inside! You allowed me to explore my #dreams and they're still paving the way. Some days are better than others, but not a day goes by that I don't miss you. xoxo

Growing up my Mom would have the hardest time waking me up for school. I would take a shower never brining a towel into the bathroom and run straight back to bed; wrapping my comforter around my wet body lol. She would snap.. #memories boy do I miss my Mom.

MY WORK STORY: A true Team effort, Thank You

“Permanence, perseverance and persistence in spite of all obstacles, discouragement, and impossibilities: It is this, that in all things distinguishes the strong soul from the weak”

Spring 2011 my last semester at The State University of New York, Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), major: Advertising Marketing Communications. First day was yesterday, happy to wrap this up.
However this is a true work-a-holic story...During my AAS graduation at Radio City Music Hall in 2006 My Grandmother Nanny, said “Wow and all this time I thought you were going for fashion design, fashion merchandising…something with Fashion.” I still love Fashion and Personal Style but the management of the brand has been my new found love.
I hit the “Parent Lottery” (r.p) so I was able to try out many many different things. I worked for the late  Lamar Johnson, Menswear designer, at 15 at Contemporary Contour, my mom kept me busy on the things she knew that I might have wanted to follow. So that phase left me with a skill set of sewing, design, and much more. Past Love, still burns so twice a week I take a sewing class at Making it Sew Workshop in PA. At 16 I had 6 pieces in B.Stylish Boutique and two successful Fashion shows where, Tommy the undertaker, Dj. Boo and Sharonda Tate( hair stylist) sponsored and that was at the age of 16, sometimes now at 26 I’m like where did all that energy come from, and not to mention me and Jenea pushing clothes out my trunk, they we sewed the night before. My brand then was Dare 2 B Different. Me and Jenea creates Youngin About Somethin, At times My Mom would give me honest feedback and say It is dare to be a mess, Lanez what is this go change…I couldn’t get away with everything.

Throughout high school working for Old Navy was so much fun, I use to look forward to going in twice a week. Dressing the mannequins’, being a greeter, and even finding complete joy in the kids section. Exceptional Customer Service is a Great Experience, a skill and talent turning me into a true People Pleaser. Throughout that beginning of Old Navy I met people who have help develop my abilities, Jim Holbrook, Derrick Sampson, Doreen, Mike. A, Earl Warren ( never missed a day of work ever), and people like Monya who showed that the world is filled with direct, weird, atheists that you can’t excape, although she was tough, I learned from her. Back in forth from NY and PA grindin while in school. I thought hey I been around ON for a while I can so manage now.

I went to New York and Company as an Asst. Manager under Towanda Foster, positive, smiling manger, who was down to earth and Ariana Fortune, who taught me all about fast pace. I stayed there for a while then went to EXPRESS has a Co-Manager under Kyron Townes, a very smart business man and friend today. After all that I went back to my home Old Navy where I had the most fun, I was loyal to the brand and believed I could make a true difference. As a Customer Experience Supervisor and District Train at the Regional Location. I swear I worked in every Old Navy in PA and the main beast in New York way to long.
Reading Basic Black by Cathie Black, everything changed. Of course my journey is always in God hands so I applied to Victoria Secret for part time work believe it or not. I just wanted a 30% discount (Good Bras are pricey) so after chatting with the KOP team, they were ready to capture me for themselves. So I ask God if this is for me it is for me. I left Jim Holbrook and Old Navy which was a very sad moment. Jim explained make sure they know about your Mom how she’s sick and you will be back, he told Arden Graham to talk to me and when she told Jim that there was nothing we could say to her she is reading that book…lol When I did get the chance to see Arden she said “where ever you go you will be fine”. After the  exciting Journey at Victoria Secret as the Brand Delivery Manager it was a great stepping stone. Miraculous Bra Launch in Baltimore, Feeling Sexy everyday and connecting with wonderful woman was great.
QVC is a whole different ball game it’s something so very new. I landed the position by me being me, and it is a dream… I say all this to say, you never know why things happen, but they happen for a reason. When you Get, Give so this story and others have inspired me to keep it moving, keep going there will always be a brighter day.

What's on your P.L.A.T.E?

Happy New Year!
What’s on your PLATE for the New Year? I love asking people before the New Year what’s their resolution. You tend to get the same answers. “I want to lose weight, get on a better diet”.  Most females’ top of the charts answers where around dieting, saving, and love. I also asked a very close friend who said “why make up a plan you never follow.” The best answer was from my hair dresser’s grandmother, “make goals”, so with this New Year already underway, my goals have taken some time to list and re-list for this 2011 brand new year. But here they go

1.        Strong walk with God
2.        Family Time
3.        School, Work, Saving
4.        Act small dream Big
5.        PARIS
Happiness is my everything! I give God all the credit; my goal is to wake up every morning striving to really be Happy. At the 2010 PROMOTIONS EAST conference Rory Aplanalp, Consultant and Motivational speaker shared his views on how to remain Happy. To remain happy you must be happy with your PLATE.  Let’s explore the thoughts about our plates… When I think about my current plate, I understand my walk with God is first for everything else would not be, I think about being a full time student in another State, my future GMAT test, book club at my house on Sunday, working at my dream job @ QVC, and the many things that happen daily, the must dos and the want to dos. Ok so my plate gets full quick and I’m sure yours do too. So my plate can become irking, so what to do when you need to get the happy back? Rory began to explain that you can’t control a person you can only influence; the one thing we can control is our own behavior and that includes our happiness.
To be happy you must be happy with your P.L.A.T.E!
P. Put something good into your situation. In order to be happier in 2011, put something good in your life. Whenever I get down or even upset I say to myself, “What can I do right now, to make this better, to put a smile back on my face.” Usually it’s my Power Prayers for Woman; a book of short prayers, but that’s what I feel is putting good in. I also might play my I-pod has loud as I can and that is another form of putting something good in. Try it. Find your good.
L. Let GO of the past. Recently I read a book “Nine Rooms of Happiness” all of your rooms must be in order, so one room won’t spread to the next. Try this. Build a house for yourself on paper in create rooms, label the rooms how you like, the book suggest nine. The basement is past memories that should be stored appropriately. The kitchen is where you eat and remain healthy for life. The family room is the people that you have no choice in picking. Family, I happen to love my family so I welcome this room often, and it’s due to my strong family upbringing that I’m able to clear up other rooms when they become messy. The living room is where you entertain your guest and friends. The biggest difference between family room and living room, is you actually have the power over who your friends are and what you keep living around you. The office is where you handle your bills and the bedroom is for sleep. Read the book. I said all that to say, let some things go! Get the rooms in order and Let go of yesterday there is nothing we can do about it. At times I feel with the passing of my mother before my 25th birthday I live in the room of basement, the memories are still so precious that I want them to forever be live and present. Within time I have learned to store the memories and replace some lessons with great action moves. Since I don’t want the basement affecting my office. Action is one step closer to a goal and I’m sure Juliette would have wanted me to keep it moving and not live in the past. So keep things and your rooms in order where they should be.
A. Have the attitude of gratitude. Lord I just want to thank you…I want to thank you for being so good to me. Singing as I type Be thankful! Make it a part of your attitude. I am thankful for the good and when things go wrong. Instead of being mad when things happen, say thank you, and ask what can I learn from this? Move forward with thanksgiving in your heart.
T. Take the time to Throw a Starfish! Rory told a story about a young boy and his grandfather, walking on the beach. The little boy noticed starfishes approaching the shore and the grandfather explained when the sun rise the starfishes will die and the little boy took one starfish and threw it far into the ocean. The grandfather told him (one thing you should never tell someone), son don’t waste time you won’t make a difference. The little boy grabbed another starfish in told his grandfather, yes I did I made a difference with this one. Powerful if I was able to explain it well, here’s my starfish. You can make a difference, and taking baby steps to make a difference is wonderful. I throw this starfish to others, Juliette was my everything, My mom. I had time to talk with her before she left, I asked what to do when I miss you? You won’t be here. She placed a LIVE STRONG bracelet on my right wrist and told me to do just that, live strong and keep it moving. So I have purchased over 300 bracelets and when I see people going through, I throw them a starfish, taking off my bracelet and giving it to them. I try to make a difference. Where’s your difference? What’s your starfish?
E. Exercise the 5min rule. Take 5min to right a list. Take 5 min to do something you want to do. I use this in the am, when I really don’t want to make my bed. I say it will only take 5min…
So as 2011 moves right on in, without a break, What’s on your PLATE? Really think about it. And I hope that this will help, because it sure has helped me. Be Happy! God Bless and Have a wonderful 2011 year.

Ready All Day

Ready ALL Day
Great minds think alike.
I can’t take credit for this term, phrase, acronym, because it belongs to Old Navy. RAD is a training class; teaching employees how merchandise should remain Replenished, Accessible, and the Display should remain visibly appealing.
Ok so that’s the background, would like to ensure I give them the whole credit.
However I have used the term in a different light,
I love fashion and I believe you should look your best when you can for several reasons, you feel better about yourself when you look your best. Your outfit should be able to hold you the whole day, like I tell my friends all the time who forever wants me to change every time we go out.  Designer Jason Wu said it best “DON’T EVER CHANGE. Why transform an outfit from day to night? Put one together that works from wake up to lights out, Luxe simplicity is the key blend high and low, casual and formal, Toss a beaded cashmere cardigan over a crisp cotton button down shirt.”
My mind set, I can be ready for an interview,  a day at the Q, party, or whatever you have for me, because I am ready!

What is SEXY???

What is Sexy?

Generally attractive or interesting...ok so that's what Dictionay.com says sexy is.
However I agree to a degree. Sexy is so much more. It’s a state of being. My mom the Late Juliette would say “even on my bad days I’m still SEXY”

When I went on my interview for the Brand Delivery Manager position at Victoria’s Secret, I explained to my District Manager, that I own sexy, I deliver it every day. She hired me within two seconds; of course I had the skill and experience to back it up.

Now-a-days sexy is thought of as only attractive in a sexually sense, I beg to differ its really what everyone should feel in the inside, all day. My cousin Diash said I was the sexiest person she has ever met and I wonder why, maybe because at the time of the comment I was dancing. (The only dance I know how to do, one hand in the air) but since I own that word what can you expect it is a sexy dance. J

Sexy is being attractive inside and out you must feel it. Even if you are in jeans and a t-shirt, walk like you are the bad-est person on the block. Inspire Confidence and you will feel forever young. Smile more often, very sexy and give the world all you have…

Juliette was my role model and on a daily basis that’s one of my Brand Mantras…..SEXY!
